Raypak 013794F – Bypass Spring – Brass Bypass Valve
If the heater is not holding temperature, the bypass valve is no longer modulating flow correctly, or you are seeing condensation and premature scaling in the heat exchanger, a worn or collapsed bypass spring is a common cause. The spring sets the tension on the bypass valve, which controls how much water routes through the heat exchanger versus around it. When it weakens, flow regulation drifts and heat transfer suffers.
Why This Part Matters
Correct bypass tension protects the heat exchanger from thermal shock and condensation. A failed spring lets too much or too little water through the exchanger, which shows up as poor heat output, sooting, or accelerated scale build-up.
